Betty M. Stephen
Betty M. Stephen was raised born in Lake City, South Carolina. She was raised in the Bronx, New York after she moved there with her family at the age of three. Having grown up on Webster Avenue and 171st she learned many life lessons. She started writing at a young age thanks to an assignment in her English class. She (and her classmates) were given an assignment to write what they felt should be the ending to a story that they read in class. That weekend after pondering the story, she began to write the ending to the story. After being asked to stand to read the ending she wrote that Monday morning in class it was then her love of writing began. The ending was well received by her peers and teacher. Betty is a passionate writer who draws from the human experience. Her work is thought-provoking and cutting edge. She is an award winning playwright, having written and starred in her original piece "She Is A Woman," which theme centered around the Women's Liberation Movement. The 1st prize win landed her in Washington, DC to tour the Capitol building. Shortly after this win, upon the request of several members of Congress, she recited some of her original poetry at the world famous Apollo Theater (NYC). Betty is an author of several published works, From a Gray Perspective (a collection of poetry), Broken Promises (a collection of her poetry and poetry of Nicole Stevenson), I Laugh To Myself, her second novel (a short story). Her most passionate work thus far is the highly anticipated novel Growing Decisions. Her love for the characters of Growing Decisions can be compared to that of a mother for her children. These were/are her children. She carried them for many years and to be able to share them with the world is surreal. Growing Decisions (Part 2) will be released in early 2016. Talks are in the works to bring this epic tale to the silver screen.
Betty currently resides in Paterson, New Jersey with her husband and two children. She is a member of the Agape Christian Ministries in Paterson, New Jersey under the leadership of Pastor James A. Kuykendall. She serves in ministry as an Intercessor and a Greeter.
